ReStore is an extension of Habitat for Humanity which strives to serve people in need while practicing environmental stewardship. It functions as a retail business which accepts and sells donated goods at a reduced price to the general public. In September 1992, the first Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the United States opened its doors in Austin, Texas. At that time, ReStores were known to sell building materials only. Today, with more than 700 stores in three countries and growing, Habitat ReStores sell everything from building materials to household items to furniture. Proceeds from sales help to fund Habitat construction projects throughout Genesee County.
