Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Genesee County NY, where we have been building hope and homes for over 10 years.
We are very excited to welcome you to our organization. There are a variety of ways you can help us in our mission to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in our community. The following are a list of possibilities for volunteer activities. If one or more strike you as something you would like to do for Habitat, please email us at info@geneseehabitat.com with dates and times of your availability to help, and someone will contact you to schedule you. Should you have further questions, or have not heard from us feel free to call 585-345-1656 and our staff will be happy to assist you :
- Help with Construction: During the course of the year, we may or may not be working on rehabilitation or building of a home. If this is the capacity in which you are interested in helping, we usually work on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Simply let us know when you are available, and we can arrange to have you report directly to the construction site. No skills are necessary, as our crew will show you how and what to do when you arrive. Please dress with the anticipation of doing construction work (appropriate footwear is a must). Anyone over the age of 18 is allowed to participate in construction.
- Volunteer to Work at our ReStore: Every Thursday 9 am.to 12 p.m.and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. we have our ReStore open in the Batavia First United Methodist Church on Lewiston Rd. Our ReStore is where we sell donated gently-used and new items to the general public to help us fund our builds. We need volunteers either day to act as cashiers, donation acceptors, and store clerks. This is open to young adults (age 15 and up, or younger with appropriate parental supervision), so the whole family can get involved. Your efforts at our ReStore save items from ending up in landfills, and help us raise much needed funds for our programs.
- Prepare Lunches for Our Crew: During our builds, our crews are very grateful to receive lunches that can be prepared by individuals or church groups. These are needed on Wednesdays and Saturdays during construction.
- Check our St. Pauly’s Shed at Batavia First United Methodist Church: Once a week we need volunteers to check our clothing donation shed. This can be done at your convenience, and consists of you opening the shed, moving bags from the drop area to the larger collection area in the back of the shed, bagging any loose items, and ensuring that the drop area is clean. If the shed is full at time of your visit, please let us know and we will call for a pick up.
- Help with administrative tasks: If you have computer skills, and can spare some time to help us with data entry, your help may be needed at our office. We also have some opportunities from time to time to help us with mailings and special events.
